Petition
The BIOMASAKER petition
The petition for the cancellation of state subsidies is part of the BIOMASAKER campaign, started by the WOLF Forest Protection Movement on the 1 April 2014 at the largest fir tree in the Čergov mountain range. The subject of the petition is the cancellation of state subsidies on all wood incinerated in biomass facilities, with the exception of wood originating as energy crops and wood originating as waste from the wood-processing industry. The reason behind the campaign is the fact that, since 2000, Slovakia has lost 760 square km of forests. Currently, almost 4 million metric tons of cubic metres of wood are being harvested for energy production purposes, whereas the sustainable logging of all wood, in both forest cover areas and non-forested areas, is roughly 5,8 – 6 million cubic metres of wood.
In December 2014, WOLF submitted the petition, signed by 38 000 citizens from all around Slovakia, to the Ministry of Economy of the Slovak Republic. You can read the report on the result of processing the petition, sent to us by the Ministry of the Economy of the Slovak Republic, as well as the reaction of WOLF to their assertion, here:
